FastestWP is a project by Canary Dwarf, a boutique digital agency in the north-east of Scotland.

It started as a bid to build the fastest WordPress website in the world with fastestwp.world which fully loads in 145ms (milliseconds) according to Pingdom’s web page speed test.

Established in 2000, Canary Dwarf developed its own proprietary CMS software using ASP (Active Server Pages). However, in 2008 it started the wholesale switch to WordPress as a core content management system, and went on to establish itself as one of the leading providers on services in the country.

In turn, website speed optimisation was becoming highlighted by Google as a signal in its ranking algorithm.

With WordPress being the single biggest website building platform, and a free-for-all for non-developers to build websites without any concern for speed, it arguably became the biggest spreaders of the ignorance that blighted page speed good practice.

Despite this ‘openness’ giving WordPress a bad name in many quarters, it still went on te become the largest website creation software in use today with a massive 35% of the market.

As an agency, Canary Dwarf has worked tirelessly to adopt good practices and employ techniques that speed up WordPress websites.

It is with this premise, that is has embarked on a project to build, maintain and document the fastest WordPress websites in the world.
